A hormone is a chemical substance that acts as a messenger between cells. It is produced at some other cells and gives signals to some other cells to perform or regulate human body functions. All organisms that are multi-cellular organisms essentially produce hormones. Each hormone has a particular receptor. A hormone is activated when it binds with the particular receptor protein. The system that produces hormones in the human body is called the endocrine system. Various hormones such as growth hormone, adrenalin, thyroxin, etc are secreted by pituitary gland, adrenal gland and the thyroid gland respectively, in the human body.

The human growth hormone is a product of the pituitary gland of the endocrine system. In the present sports arena, human growth hormone is also used to boost up sorts performances, though it has been banned by the authoritative organizations. Growth hormone is also clinically used to treat disorders of growth in children whom deficiency of growth hormone is seen. Not only this, it is being medically used to prevent aging in humans as it acts as a stimulant for new body cells. This hormone is also known to increase the muscle mass and reduce the fat in body cells.
