Why Buy Flowers?

posted by admin in General

Flowers are very important for many people’s lives, especially during a big day like a wedding, though they can be found in simple home or office decoration too. Many of them have a unique significance to celebrations or rituals - coronations, for example. Fresh bouquets from our favorite floral shop will be a wonderful present to give to someone we care about. Whether giving or receiving the message of ‘I care for you,’ flowers are a great way to express this emotion.

You may have even heard of a “language” of flowers, one that is different depending on what part of the world you are from. The influence that these plants have caused upon the imagination and inspiration of poets, artists, and writers is immeasurable. If you come across a human being fumbling with the inability to express his or her thoughts, feelings, or emotions, you will likely find that they are relying upon these flowers to make up for that inadequacy.

Flowers have the ability to influence our emotions and affect our moods. Rutgers University has conducted a behavioral research study and has found that they actually trigger happy emotions. They can also uplift the satisfaction we have with life, and have the ability to affect our social skills in a positive way. Happiness, moods, and intimacy were all things that flowers were seen to have a benefit on according to the study.

Over the years Flowers have developed meanings and are not selected randomly. Different flowers convey different emotions. Other emotions that are linked include love and daintiness (the Aster), never forgetting (pink carnation), rejection or disappointment (yellow carnation), and “you have sunshine in your smile” (tulip).

It is also widely believed that flowers have numerous healing properties. For any patient that might have plants as a visible part of their hospital stay, Dr. Roger Ulrich - an environmental psychologist at Texas A&M University - has unique findings. The health benefits were enormous, and ranged from lower stress and shorter stays in the hospital to less pain medications, increased optimism, and general uplifts in physical wellness. Recently, many health care facilities have taken the initiative to utilize these ideas in creation of their healthier, patient friendly environmental atmosphere. What has resulted is an increase in flowers in health care places, as an effort to try to heal the patients in the best possible way.
